Texas has experienced several growth cycles, the last being the COVID pandemic. Between 2020 and 2024 Texas’ population grew by 7%, while US grew 3.6%. A great article by Jorge Barro at Texas Real Estate Research Center, titled "Can Texas Sustain Its Growth", attributes the growth to the restructuring of the workforce/remote work, favorable housing market, lack of state income tax and a business friendly environment encouraging many business to move their headquarters to Texas. Texas had great incentives in place right as the pandemic caused major market disruption causing business and people to relocate.
